Printing is an everyday office necessity, whether you work in a small office or a multinational corporation. When it comes to sustainability, printing impacts the environment on three fronts: paper consumption, electricity consumption, and ink/tone consumption. Printing may be inevitable for some but there are luckily steps people and businesses can take to be more environmentally friendly when it comes to printing. We refer to these measures collectively as eco-printing.
Here are 7 Eco-Friendly printing tips:
Print on both sides
Print and photocopy documents double sided (duplex) saving time, space, money, and costs.
Recycle bins
Clearly identify recycling bins to dispose of wastepaper.
Use printer software
Software enables you to control who prints what, who prints where and what machine the print job is directed to. This can automatically route print jobs to the most suitable system – saving you money.
Proofread what you are about to print
Double check all documents before you print. This will save time and ink that you would have wasted otherwise.
Print only portions you need
Documents have multiple pages, graphics, logos and graphs. Always do a print preview to see what pages have unnecessary information and cut them from your print collection.
Change your font
Printing in smaller fonts can save you ink. Enlarge fonts only when needed.
Always use genuine toners
A printer toner is not a “one size fits all” consumable and there are suppliers that provides you with counterfeit toners which can be extremely harmful to the environment and your pocket.
While printing will always have an environmental impact on our planet, it can be significantly reduced with sustainable practices.
